Today marks International Nurses Day 2020, and the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale. Florence was the founder of modern nursing – and the impact of a number of her practices continues to be felt across healthcare services worldwide. The College believes it is important to acknowledge the work of nurses and the key roles they play in our healthcare settings, especially as we manage the impact of COVID-19. The International Council of Nurses’ theme for this year is Nursing the World to Health, focusing on the true value of nurses to the people of the world. This International Nurses Day is particularly significant because it is taking place in the official Year of the Nurse & Midwife. As a college of medical leaders let’s celebrate this enduring profession and the significant contribution nurses make to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare.
